Wareing will launch a new casual British restaurant in Covent Garden this summer. Tredwell’s will open on Upper St Martin’s Lane in July in the spot formerly occupied by Japanese restaurant
Kyashii, and takes its name from Tredwell the butler in Agatha Christie’s The Seven Dials Mystery.
The restaurant team will be headed up bynot by Wareing himself, but by Marcus Wareing Restaurants’ group operations director, Chantelle Nicholson. In a statement, the Ramsay-trained chef says:
‘Tredwell’s sees me move further into the role of a restaurateur. The restaurant will not be about me and my food as you will not see me in the kitchen as I remain committed to my restaurant
MARCUS at The Berkeley hotel.’
The food will be much simpler than Wareing’s two-Michelin-starred menu at The Berkeley. Nicholson told us that it will be: ‘British by design and in provenance, but worldly in what it will offer’,
using the best native ingredients to create internationally-inspired dishes. An as yet unannounced head chef with a background at many top London restaurants has been lined-up, but the intention is
for the focus to be firmly on the food rather than who is in the kitchen.
Wareing also runs The Gilbert Scott at St. Pancras, and he will re-launch his flagship restaurant at The
Berkeley hotel under the new name of MARCUS next Monday.
