Hix bar pops up in Selfridges shoe department

marks-bar-.jpgThe latest opening from serial restaurateur Mark Hix is a portable bar he describes as ‘the smallest cocktail bar in the largest men's shoe-wear department in the world’.

The bar is Hix’s second venture in Oxford Street department store, Selfridges; it joins his existing restaurant and Champagne bar on the ground floor.

The bar will serve cocktails and espressos throughout the day, along with some light snacks. Designed to be fully portable so that it can roam around the store, popping up in any department on any floor, it could accurately be described as an elaborate drinks trolley.

Cocktails are created by Nick Strangeway and include the Hix Fix made with morello cherries, Somerset eau de vie and English sparkling wine, and a coffee martini. The bar will also stock Hix's own-label oyster stout. Food includes beer stix and Hix-cure smoked salmon on soda bread, both already popular in Hix’s other restaurants.

Hix is a busy man, with his latest restaurant, Hixter in Devonshire Square, due to open next week. This will bring the total number of restaurants bearing his name in the capital to six, or seven if you count this new bar.
