Heston Blumenthal is to open a café at Heathrow airport.

The Perfectionists’ Café is set to open at Heathrow’s redeveloped Terminal 2 in June, to coincide with the re-opening of the terminal.

Taking its name from Heston’s In Search of Perfection TV series, The Perfectionists’ Café aims to serve food at a fast pace. The menu will lean towards British classics, and burgers and fish and chips will be given a Heston twist. Pizzas are to be cooked in what organisers claim is the first ever wood-burning oven in an airport.

Blumenthal observed passenger habits when coming up with the concept: ‘Some guests will have very little time to spend with us and others, in transit or with longer check-ins, will have time to linger. The restaurant will of course cater to both, but we want to deliver food that is fun and familiar – food that is stimulating to the palate and at the same time easy to enjoy,’ he said.

Design agency Seymourpowell came up with the logo design, while décor is said to reflect the 'glamour of travel in the 1960s'.

The Perfectionists’ Café will join Wondertree, also at Terminal 2, a joint venture from The Restaurant Group (Frankie & Benny’s, Chiquito) and Giraffe, as well as other restaurants yet to be announced.
