Gatti's City Point: The Verdict

The “very Italian” ristorante’s second City site in Moorgate fills 5,000 square feet and is a proper old-school affair: shady mirrors, white tablecloths, burgundy carpets and a rattling dessert trolley.

The Broadgate original was saved from closure by a customer who came every week for the lobster linguine. He bought the restaurant to continue his routine, summing up the spirit of Gatti’s, both in Broadgate and here: repeat custom is the order of the day and you know what you’re getting. Hearty pasta dishes include fettucine with smoked salmon, ravioli with chicken and veal, or perfectly rendered spag bol. Hungry City boys can dive into enormous Angus beef steaks, plump, pink and oozing with creamy Stilton sauce, washed down with plenty of red wine from the extensive global list. Lighter options include Dover sole and seabass, leaving a bit more room for cheesecakes, mousses or ice creams.

A night at Gatti’s will make you want to go home and watch The Sopranos, which is no bad thing.
