We know we say it every year, but didn’t the last 12 months fly by? Without wanting to sound like a broken record, we can never quite believe it when New Year’s Eve rolls around for another year.

In many ways, it’s overshadowed largely by Christmas festivities, hidden behind a smokescreen of tinsel and turkey until bam – it's December 31 and you realise you’ve forgotten to make plans. Let this year be different! We’ve rounded up all the best places to celebrate New Year's Eve in London in 2024, to ensure you’re ahead of the game with your pick of the coolest parties the city has to offer, of course.

London's New Year celebrations range from VIP parties to quirky bashes and we have got the scoop on the very best of the bunch. We understand that the cost-of-living crisis has made 2024 a tricky year for many, but we do have a section dedicated to cheap and free events happening in the capital if you’re eager to join in the fun without breaking the bank.

With that being said, read on for our guide on where to eat, drink and party this New Year’s Eve in London, and be sure to keep an eye on this page too, as we will be updating it regularly in the lead up to the big event.

Where to watch the New Year's Eve London fireworks

Traditionally, the New Year’s Eve fireworks in the capital are a staple of 31 December, complete with thousands of spectators all crammed together along the South Bank. Although there were a few years where the fireworks were put on hold due to covid, last year they came back with a bang (pardon the pun), with 100,000 tickets released for the big show.

Although tickets for the fireworks this year haven't yet gone on sale, we're expecting another firework fiesta for 2024. Usually, these go on sale from October to December.

Even if you don't manage to get a ticket, there should still be places where you can enjoy a view of the London fireworks for free. Head up Primrose Hill or Parliament Hill, or secure yourself a spot at Greenwich Park or Vauxhall Bridge. Wherever you choose to stand, wrap up warm and expect the show to be concentrated around the usual area - The London Eye - from around midnight.

With multiple celebrations taking place all over London, why not bag yourself one of the best seats in the house and view them all from above? Choose from one of these New Year's Eve dinners in London, all of which boast stunning views of the capital's landmarks.

GONG Shangri La, London Bridge

Epic views from the 52nd floor

What: GONG’s NYE bash is perfect for those looking to really splash out on the 31 December. Located on the 52nd floor of The Shard, awesome views are already a given, but the team at this swish bar are taking things to new heights with cabaret performances, classic tunes, Champagne, a resident DJ and plenty of Japanese dishes. Priced at £450 per person, the menu kicks off with canapes and Champagne, while sharing dishes include Carlingford oysters, crab California rolls, chicken karaage, chilli prawns and pumpkin korokke.
Where: 31 St Thomas Street, SE1 90U

TING Restaurant & Lounge, London Bridge

Views from TING

What: Another glamorous offering from the Shangri La Hotel, this time perched on the 35th floor of The Shard, pan-Asian restaurant TING is serving up a special menu for New Year’s Eve. Guests can select one of two sittings – the first being at 6pm and the second at 7:30pm – where they can tuck into a four-course meal along with half a bottle of Champagne each. Dishes include native lobster with coconut and lime sabayon and daikon salad, and char siu scallops with white soy and scallop broth. Of course, all diners are privy to spectacular views of London’s skyline.

This year, it's hosting a party to remember, canapes, free-flowing Champagne, a bespoke menu and spectacular views of the London Eye. Get your glad rags on - guests are encouraged to dress up at this celebration to see in the New Year in style.

Searcys at The Gherkin, The City

Why: Ring in the New Year at the top of one of London’s most iconic skyscrapers, The Gherkin, which is throwing a dazzling party this year. DJ Tom Diesel will be on the decks all night, while unlimited food and drink ensures no one ever goes hungry. From 8pm to 3am, you can dance, chat, eat, drink and relax in one of London's most impressive settings - all set against London's sparkling cityscape. It doesn't get much better than that!
Where: 30 St Mary Axe, EC3A 8EP
Book now: Helix at The Gherkin

City Social, City

Why: Part of the appeal of City Social is that it sits among London’s taller buildings, instead of looming over them – which means you can actually make out what’s happening on the streets below. Fantastic views don’t always guarantee great food, but City Social boasts Michelin recognition, serving a fine-dining menu which makes the most of seasonal ingredients. It usually creates a host of special Michelin menus for the 31 December, with dishes last year featuring the likes of alba white truffle risotto with aged parmesan and arbequina olive oil, beef wellington with braised shallots and black truffle sauce, and bitter chocolate and mandarin mousse with mandarin sorbet, crystalised chocolate and chocolate sauce.
Where: 25 Old Broad Street, EC2N 1HQ
Book now: City Social

Aqua Shard, London Bridge

Why: Of The Shard’s trio of restaurants, Aqua Shard is undoubtedly home to the best view. The floor-to-ceiling windows ensure a jaw-dropping sweep across the capital, while the modern British menu features accomplished, hyper-seasonal dishes which prove that there’s more to Aqua than just its view. Of course, such great views come at a (rather high) price, but as the old saying goes – you get what you pay for.

Level 31 The Shard, 31 St Thomas Street, SE1 9RY
Book now: Aqua Shard

Skylon, South Bank

Why: A bustling (but not chaotic) atmosphere and sweet-natured staff are just a couple of reasons why Skylon has long been a favourite among discerning Londoners. The restaurant also benefits from views across the Thames thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows, while the bar is often home to eye-catching floral installations. Chow down on the classically British menu as you wave goodbye to 2024.
Where:
 Belvedere Road, SE1 8XX
Book now: Skylon

Aqua Kyoto, Soho

Why: The seductive interiors and high-quality Japanese fare are enough to lure the crowds into Aqua Kyoto any day of the week, but the restaurant makes for a particularly attractive New Year’s Eve venue. Typical dishes might include wagyu sirloin beef, soft-shell crab tempura and robata dishes, and it usually hosts a DJ for guests to party the night away to. If you're planning on going all-out this year, try to secure one of the limited tables on the heated, covered outside terrace for views of London's best unofficial fireworks displays that pop up all over the place.
Where:
30 Argyll Street, W1B 3BR

Mercer Roof Terrace, City

Why: Home to cracking views of the City, Mercer Roof Terrace is an enticing option when it comes to picking a NYE London venue. This year, it's offering a sumptuous five-course feast, including a glass of Champagne, with dishes such as a Hereford beef fillet with lobster croquette, caramelized parsnip and port jus, Somerset brie with panettoni and fig chutney, and chocolate and clementine gateau with clementine sorbet.

On New Year's Eve, there are two sittings available, in which diners can enjoy a tantalising six or seven-course menu with a glass of Champers. Dishes include King salmon sushi with dashi broth, foie gras brioche with berry chutney, and chicken supreme with carrots and onions.
Where: 40 Marsh Wall, E14 9TP

OXO Tower, South Bank

Why: Plenty of sky-high restaurants have opened in London in recent years, but OXO Tower still boasts one of the best views in London. The eighth-floor restaurant features glass panelled walls and a terrace for some spectacular views of London below, while the menu comprises plenty of sophisticated modern dishes, with dedicated vegetarian and vegan menus available too. We recommend the neighbouring Oxo Bar for some post-prandial drinking.
