Gastronomic royalty the Roux family look set to open a
restaurant in Essex. According to local reports, Albert Roux has submitted plans to turn a former Post Office on Brentwood High Street into a restaurant.
The 78-year-old chef is the brother of Michel Roux, who runs three-Michelin-starred The Waterside Inn at Bray, and the father of Michel Roux Jnr, who runs Mayfair’s Le Gavroche and has regularly appeared as a presenter on MasterChef: The Professionals. Albert Roux opened Le
Gavroche in 1967 and it became London's first Michelin-starred restaurant shortly after.
Speaking to the Brentwood Gazette, Albert Roux said:
'It’s a beautiful town, with a lot of extremely wealthy people who have an acquired taste for food...and the old Post Office property is absolutely superb.'
The new restaurant would fall under Albert Roux’s holding company Chez Roux Limited, which also owns Roux at
the Landau in the Langham Hotel near Regent Street and Roux at Parliament Square, along with
six more restaurants in Scotland.
