 | Eugenie T.( 40s, Female, United Kingdom )Good idea! it's worked for other causes so why not the Christmas party, there are some really good deals out there which just need to be taken advantage of! Let us know how it goes Simon!

 Posts: 1 | Katie P.( 20s, Female, United Kingdom )In some ways I kind of like this idea as it is quirky, new, inexpensive and puts a smile on my face. A part of me thinks wow this could be the next big thing however my nagging doubts are;
-
is it a bit tragic, inappropriate and desperate
- are our target audience EVER in a million years going to think “oh I know, lets book our Xmas party on Ebay” – perhaps they might in time to come once word had spread but this would take a while.
- is it de-valuing your product?
- maybe worth a trial if just for fun?!
Just a few thoughts! K

 Posts: 1 | AW.( 30s, Male, United Kingdom )I am not sure if this is the right direction for our industry. Whilst I am not in this market, I assume this as a sign that they are not selling the nights. As a purchaser, in the current market, this would lead me to be concerned about the sellers ability to deliver. I also feel this is devaluing what should be a very special night for the client and guests?

 | Billy Boston( 40s, Female, United Kingdom )Am I the only person not to have ever bought something on ebay? If I am reluctant to buy a single gift I certainly wouldn't book my company Christmas Party. That said; it did capture my imagination and I followed the link! I think I would probably pick up the phone to Impulse Events rather than bid on ebay, but it is an interesting idea. I will certainly follow the bidding process to see if it sells.

 | Charlie F.( 30s, Male, United Kingdom )It's good to see someone trying something different. It's no secret that Christmas parties aren't selling as well as they have in the past, so why not give something new a go? At the very least, it's got people talking. Katie – I think ‘tragic, inappropriate and desperate’ goes a bit far. Many event companies, restaurants, venues and bars rely on Christmas trade to stay afloat/make a profit for the year, so anything Impulse can do to sell its last few nights is fair and justified. I think you're right when you suggest it's just something the company's trialing, just to see how it goes. In reality, if AW is right and Impulse hasn't sold parties on the nights and are attempting to shift the last few like this, so what?! At the end of the day, it's only 4 nights out of a whole Christmas season, so I don't think it says too much about the company's ability to deliver, or the state of the industry. I would question the practicality of putting them on Ebay, though. I mean, is the company's party planner/social secretary going to bid for it with their account and pay for it using their own PayPal facility? I can't see companies setting up Ebay accounts purely for one bid, unless they're getting a massively discounted rate which, I guess, they may well be…

 | Goldfish( 40s, Male, London )I think this would have been a great idea for selling spare seats at shared party nights but not booking big parties for hundreds of guests. As Charlie says, how is anyone going to put thousands of pounds through their PayPal account?

 | Simon M.( 30s, Male, United Kingdom )Very interesting to see the debate this has caused. In response to the comments… Putting our events on Ebay was really a bit of fun – out of 20 dates at the venue we have 4 remaining. It has had the desired effect, and created interest in our product via an (as yet) unused medium. We never really expected anyone to buy an entire event through their paypal account, the advert encourages potential clients to contact us for a viewing… Katie P – I dont think this has ‘de-valued’ our product at all, we will still offer the same excellent quality as we have done for the last 5 years at this venue. I think ‘a bit of fun’ is nearer the mark. What is has done, is given us some very valuable PR which was the original aim. In these very difficult times for our industry, there is no point in hoping business will come to you, which is why we use Facebook, Twitter and now Ebay to help promote our events. By the way, we now only have three dates left if anyone is interested! Simon
