What's with these dress codes?

So the current trend in dress codes seems to be to try and be clever and different. In the last few weeks, I've been invited to events where the dress code has just been ‘vibrant’ or ‘glam’. How are you supposed to deal with that?

I think they basically mean… Make an effort instead of turning up in Shabby clothes. As long as YOU feel comfortable, wear whatever you feel is right. Rest assured, there will always be half a dozen people that look worse than everyone! I must admit, it is easier for women than it is for men… But hey, its nice to get a break somewhere in life! ;-)

I have no idea how I would approach a ‘vibrant’ dress code! I can just about come to terms with smart casual but if a man wants to be taken seriously and attend an event don't make it any more difficult for them to accept the invitation. I urge anyone trying to organise an event to attract corporate buyers don't try and be too clever, it is up to the event organise to show how creative they can be not the guests. Some important people may simply not attend!
