Forum Help
(menu)What is the forum?
The forum is a friendly, interactive discussion area where Square Meal members can share their opinions, advice and experiences.
What the forum is not?
The forum is not a place to write restaurant and bar reviews. To add a review about a place you've been to, go to the relevant restaurant or bar page and publish it there. The forum is not the place for starting a social movement, or areas to advertise your business. Advertising and solicitation are strictly prohibited.
Forum: registration and guidelines
Do I need to register?
You don't need to become a member to browse forum postings. However, to post a new thread, reply to a post or share the thread, you'll need to create a free account.
Why can't I sign in to forum?
If you are having trouble signing in, it may be because your web browser isn't set up to accept ‘cookies’ - which keep track of your user name and password. In order to sign in, you must enable cookies. You can do this in your web browser. Each browser has a slightly different way of enabling cookies, and you can usually find instructions by going to your browser's help section. Once you enable cookies, restart your browser and attempt to sign into your Square Meal account.
What are the rules of conduct for posting in the forum?
We encourage SquareMeal users to contribute their opinions freely, as long as they do it responsibly, free of insult and with respect to others. Posts which violate our standards are routinely removed without further comment.
Style of posts should be consistent with "normal writing": no excessive use of emoticons, coloured text, SHOUTING or punctuation (e.g. ! and ?). No text should be written using CAPS lock.
No profanity or obscenities of any kind, even disguised with *asterisks.
No personal attacks on other users (personal attacks are defined as comments that reflect upon the person instead of their opinion).
No false statements will be tolerated.
When reviewing an establishment, it is not acceptable to identify members of staff by name.
Slanderous, defamatory, obscene, indecent, lewd, pornographic, violent, abusive, insulting, swearing, threatening, harassing, or excessively angry comments are not tolerated.
SquareMeal reserves the right to edit or remove any post at any time.
No advertising of any kind, including non-profit organisations.
Forum: posting, editing and removals
How to post a question or answer in forum.
Go to the forum page and select a board to view. When you've found a board you'd like to contribute to, click Start a new thread to ask a new question. If you want to participate in an existing thread, click the thread title, and then click Reply to this post.
I posted a message, but I can’t see it listed?
This problem is caused by the ‘caching’ or saving, of web pages. Instead of a new request being made to our site, you are being served an old version of our page. Please click your browser's ‘reload’ or ‘refresh’ button.
If I have an objection to a post, will you remove it?
All posts on the Forum are the responsibility of the people who posted them. We rely on our members to let us know when a post is inappropriate. If you feel a post does not meet our guidelines, please report it by clicking the ‘Request post removal’ link found within the post. Each such report counts towards the removal of the offending post and will be reviewed by a moderator, who may need to research the situation in greater depth. To remove one of your own posts, simply click the ‘Edit your post’ and click ‘Delete post’. You will need to be logged in to do this.
Why was my post forum removed?
A forum post may have been removed by our staff because it contained content that did not comply with our forum guidelines or was inappropriate.
What’s the difference between a forum and a review?
Forums are discussion boards where Square Meal members can ask and answer as many questions as they like. A review is a member’s report on a restaurant or bar and should be posted under the Square Meal review on the restaurant or bar’s page.
Using HTML in the forum
HTML and our forum.
We're sorry, but members cannot include HTML in their posts. However, if a URL is included in a forum post, it will automatically be hyperlinked to the relevant web page. You can also:
Quote by inserting “>” character at beginning of each line, e.g.
> This is a quote.
This is reply.
Create lists by starting every line with a dash:
- first list item
- second list item
Searching forums and community guidelines
What if I don't agree with something another member posts?
If you disagree with something someone has posted in a forum, simply post your own opinions. But first, please read the guidelines. It's okay to disagree with other members in a forum, but treat others the way you'd want to be treated.
How do I search for things people have posted about in the forums?
Once you are inside a forum, use the search box on the top of the page to search within that particular forum or thread. Simply enter the words you want to search for, and click search.
