A beautiful thatched Oxfordshire country pub that rears its own Gloucester Old Spots and Dexter Cattle for the table. You can have a pint and/or order simply sensational food. The highest standards of cooking. If Le Manoir left you underwhelmed, try The Nut Tree; you won't be disappointed. No, I don't work for them – just discovered them via Google. nuttreeinn.co.uk. I Michelin star.

I'm a big big fan of the Nut Tree. Can't recommend it enough to peope; it's up there in my favourite pubs in the UK along with Andrew Pern's the Star at Harome and the Pipe and Glass in Beverley.

If Michael North is still at the Nut Tree, then I know that the food there should be pretty good, as he used to cook for The Goose at Britwell Salome. Fortunately, the replacement chef at The Goose is as good and also having seen the Blumenthal family there, seems to be a good endorsement. If you’re heading down towards Reading/Henley then make time to stop off. Likewise, I’d better take a trip up to Murcott to see what he’s doing with the Old Spot!
