Last night I was in a very established gastro pub and a proper good food good pub gastro pub, atmosphere great, service great but they felt it neceassry to measure out a glass of wine in one of those horrible metal wine measures?! With such a relaxed atmosphere could they just relax about the wine level? If you are serving £8 glasses of wine to put the wine in one of those is just bad and wrong…does anyone agree or should I just get over it??

Things may have changed but when I ran a bar a few years ago, if the glass didn't indicate the measure and you served wine by the glass it was a legal requirement to measure out the wine. Maybe you should see it as a measure of their professionalism and at least you know you aren't being short changed. They could be a little bit more discreet and if they have got everything else right which it sounds like they have I suggest buy a bottle next time.

I think it is so that the customer doesn't get to little than they should, which is fair enough, but for some reason it really annoys me too, and yet there is no logical reason for it to be aggravating!
