It's a subject I debate with friends endlessly. I have always been baffled as to why, unlike restaurants in any major US city, London restauaraters don't seem to invest any time, effort or money into ensuring that their staff are knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Service in most London restaurants, event the best, is awful!

Often, bad service = bad manners which is inexcusable and therefore probably more memorable than the meal. No matter what type of business you come across in the US, service always seems paramount…I think it’s one US ethic I’d like us to import.
