 | New Russian import Goodman on Maddox Street W1 is excellent, though they have a very odd habit of not cooking anything rare (this has happened to both me and a friend of mine).

 | Try Santa Maria Del Buen Ayre in London Fields for a mega-authentic Argentinean experience. And defintiely have the provoletta to start.

 | Happy Eater( 20s, Male, United Kingdom )For a monstrously huge steak, yank-stylee (the menu should read ‘chunk of cow’), go to Big Easy on the King's Road. For something a little less agricultural, try Black & Blue in Borough (good atmosphere too, and right next to the market)

 | Denise C.( 30s, Female, United Kingdom )I'd definitely agree with John about Santa Maria del Sur in Battersea- it's a great little place, very authentic and better steaks than Gaucho! Black & Blue also has good steaks, but I wouldn't recommend it or go back there as the service we experienced was so terrible!

 | Kaprow( 30s, Female, London )A bit old-school (and expensive) but the steaks at the Rib Room in the Carlton Tower are amazing. They do a fantastic sunday roast there too.

Posts: 1 | Clare B.( 30s, Female, London )I've been to Hawksmoor and Santa Maria del Sur – I'd say Hawksmoor wins by a nose, but both do excellent steak (although at Santa Maria del Sur my ‘rare’ steak was more medium-rare, and my husband ordered medium-rare and got what we'd call medium).

 | Robert B.( 50s, Male, United Kingdom )Depends on how far you are prepared to travel, North London, L'Absinthe in Primrose Hill, Smiths is very good in Smithfield- all you need to know about the provenance of your beef and much more- Simpsons is always very good, Rules is also extremely good. Don't do South of Soho.

 | James J.( 50s, Male, United Kingdom )I'd second the recommendation for Smiths – but it's quite pricey (atleast on the top floor). About £27 for a perfect sirloin sitting on a plate only adorned with a sprig of watercress! But what a sirloin!

 | Denise C.( 30s, Female, United Kingdom )I went to the launch of the new JW steak house at the Grosvenor House hotel yesterday. It was a great event, that clearly went all-out, but the steak was amazing! Apparently you can order a steak there called ‘the tomahawk’ – 32oz of meat! And it wasn't just the steak that was good, they also had the best crab cakes I've ever tasted, and huge prawns!

 | You could do a lot worse than booking a table at the JW Steakhouse. The USDA beef is some of the tastiest I have had and the Aberdeen Angus Tomahawk rib eye has to be seen to be believed.

 | Grenville C.( Over 60, Male, United Kingdom )The best steak in London used to be a big filet at a “smoke ‘n’ pit” somewhere south of the river. I lost the name and address, if any one knows it please will they say. Thanks.
