 | Both are good choices, otherwise The Gingerman or Seven Dials (but neither perhaps smart enough?). Though of course the best-of-all place to eat in Brighton is Bardsley's fish and chip restaurant (bardleys-fishandchips.co.uk): where else can you tuck in to battered haddock, mushy peas and onion rings while knocking back bubbly from a Veuve Clicquot ice bucket?

 | MD( 20s, Female, London )My partner once took me to a fab place called Terre a Terre in Brighton a few years ago. It is a vegetarian restaurant I believe, but if your open minded and love great food you won't be disppointed. Its got a great laid back yet pleasing on the eye atmosphere. Desserts were amazing and staff were friendly too. If I remember correctly there is a conservatory area which would be great for larger parties. Good luck.

 | Blanch House is your best bet. After a few pineapple & basil caipirinhas in this in-the-know cocktail bar, move into the dining room for supper. Once you've eaten head upstairs to one of the kooky but cool bedrooms – ‘Decadence’ with it's free-standing bath in the bedroom sounds like the perfect choice for such a special occasion! | Carla T.( 50s, Female, United Kingdom )Have you considered “The Restaurant at Drakes”? Really intimate and relaxed environment but with that Brighton Chic. Food is amazing – with superstar Head Chef Andrew MacKenzie at the helm. They received 2 AA Rosettes a couple months ago. A real treat with friendly yet professional knowledgable service. Go early and have a pre dinner cocktail in the sea front Bar. some of the best cocktails in Brighton. 3 course Dinner Menus are offered at a reasonable £35 per head. Good selection of options for veggies too.

 | Food M.( 20s, Female, Pakistan )Choosing a restaurant in not difficult now. Visit this site, I have recently discovered it. It is a collection of the best restaurants, pubs, and takeaways listed throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is quite appealing and a good source of information for all the food lovers like me. There is an extensive list of restaurants and takeaways for which it lets you search by restaurant type of county. You can even place your order online. It's is really cool site and is well worth checking out. It has reviews, menus, pictures, driving directions and online ordering. The website is sideorder.co.uk

 | Liza T.( 40s, Female, London )Thanks for this but I'm not sure I'd use the sideorder site – looked more like a yellow pages type listing site. Do you work for the site Food M?? Just an update to say that I ended up at HDV – again – and it was superb. The somellier offered some great options all within budget and the food was wonderful. We decided to skip pud but shared some cheese instead which led to a visit from the fromagier. Fantastic entertainment as he led us through the choices, taking fully five minutes to guide us around the (table-sized) cheese board in a very knowledgeable and charmingly French manner. We were there on a busy Friday night and and the atmosphere was buzzing, occasionally raucous (big table to our right) but service was faultless and I'd recommend the restaurant for a romantic dinner or a big group.

 | Tom V.( 20s, Male, United Kingdom )As a Brighton resident for 20 years Liza I'd recommend either Due South, on the beachfront, which is undoubtedly amongst the or the Ginger Pig in Hove. Terre a Terre can be hit and miss I've found.
