I'm taking some friends for supper to celebrate an important birthday. I'm thinking a chef's table might be fun, but not sure where to choose. Anyone got an ideas or experiences they can share?

Try Maze, you won't be disappointed. If that doesn't appeal most of the Ramsay group have chef's tables.

The chef's table at Angelus is fun (if a little on the cosy side) – they'll treat you really well, but it won't be as flashy as somewhere like Maze of course…

the chef's table at Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's is the best, it's right in the middle of the action so you can actually see the chefs cooking up-close rather than through a window or hatch (though I'm not sure who's heading up the kitchens there now Sarge is in charge of Gordon's cookbooks). Marcus Wareing also has an excellent chef's table. Both I think charge a fairly steep minimum spend per head though.

I agree with Laughing C – Maze was one of the most amazing experiences I've had – especially when one of my table were pulled into the kitchen to cook one of our courses! Yes very expensive but for a special occasion a great choice.

I booked the chef's table at the Only Running Footman, and if you're looking for something cheaper than Maze, I would highly recommend it, unless, you have anyone in the group who can't make it up 3 flights of stairs. Only held about 12 people though. Have previously booked La Cave (part of Hush) which was also good – best thing being that as all the bottles of wine are sold at retail price. The staff were great and set up some tables outside for us to have champagne and canapes first too.
