Part Ready, Steady, Cook, part Masterchef, the newest teambuilding package from L’atelier des Chefs mixes sourcing and cookery with a healthy dose of competition
It wasn’t long ago that we thrashed Team Atelier in a bake-off at their City venue near St Paul’s. Well, alright, we won by a point, but the victory was as sweet as our winning batch of profiteroles. This time, we’re at the (original) Wigmore Street venue, ready for another taste of victory.
A quick espresso to awaken our Michelin potential and we kick off with a briefing from our respective team chefs. We’re provided with the dish’s protein – sea bream – and a choice of carb – rice noodles for us, please – and are left to think about what recipe we could pull off. With dishes decided, both teams have a limited time to source the extra ingredients needed for their world-conquering culinary endeavours.
Points are awarded for penny-pinching, use of quirky ingredients and presentation, with deductions for teams over budget or being late. We were on time, but the pricey papaya was our downfall. We lose – by one point. Bring on the decider.
The six-hour Market Chef experience includes a three-course meal and costs £130pp. Among the wide range of classes on offer is a half-hour Cook, Eat and Run class, held at lunchtime, for just £15pp. Bespoke options are also available.
