Hot tips for cool winter chill-outs

skate somerset house - 1011_Somerset_House_skate.jpgAprès Ski Lodge at Queen of Hoxton: Until 31 Dec, glug Glühwein and warm cider with roasted chestnuts, mince pies and marshmallows at this Shoreditch bar’s alpine-themed roof bar (noon until 10pm daily).

Brompton Quarter Brasserie: Glide around the ice rink at The Natural History Museum and work up an appetite for a three-course dinner at this Mediterranean-influenced restaurant opposite. The combined price is just £37 per person, so get your skates on and book today.

Liquid Cashmere at Aqua: Hot Kyoto toddies, steaming bowls of chicken miso hotpot and Spanish-themed food and drinks are what to order on Aqua’s heated roof terraces each Monday throughout winter. Complimentary cashmere blankets help keep things toasty.

Skate at Somerset House (picture above): Glamorous gliding to DJ sets is the thing at this ice rink at the dramatic setting of Somerset House. There’s hot chocolate and tasty treats at Tom Aiken’s Skate Lounge but in the interest of balance, go easy on the cocktails.

Swedish Ski Lodge at The Well: Glittery reindeers; fake furs; a giant gingerbread house; Abba tunes; smorgasbord; aquavit and schnapps: celebrate Christmas, Stockholm style, at this free-to-hire pop-up for up to 70 guests.

Vista at The Trafalgar Hotel: To the sound of carolling around Trafalgar Square’s giant Norwegian spruce Christmas tree below, sip fjord escort and hot-bloodied Viking cocktails at the new all-weather dome and winter bar atop this boutique hotel (until 31 December).

Winter Garden at The Phene (pictured below right): Relax on hanging seats under twinkly fairy lights at this pukka pub in Chelsea, with its heated garden and winter cocktails to keep Jack Frost away from the Jack Wills set.

Winter_Garden_at_the_Phene_3.jpgThe Winter Palace at Bluebird: A heated glass marquee on the forecourt of this art-deco ex-garage is an unusual venue for pre-Christmas lunch, drinks and cocktails. Come evening, the candlelit space is available for private hire for up to 120 guests, from £40 per person.

Winter Wonderland Hyde Park: Glühwein, beers and bratwurst in the Bavarian Village; real ale and English fare at the Star Tavern; Champagne, live music and DJ sets in the funky igloo-like e:Cube; meal deals in the Spiegel Saloon: Just some of the attractions at this bigger-than-ever winter festival in the park where entry is free.
