South Kensington's finest institutions can put on quite a show.

We love a night at a museum. So when we were invited to three in one evening, we jumped at the chance. For the third time, the V&A, Natural History Museum and Science Museum had joined forces for Strictly SW7,  a three-course dinner event showcasing their space and suppliers.

Our group of 60 begins the evening at the V&A where we’re ushered into the beautifully lit Raphael Gallery. Here, caterer Jackson Gilmour shows off its superfood canapé selection. We sample quinoa blinis with mackerel, horseradish cream and pickled beetroot, and acai-crusted duck breast on a wild rice cake with blueberry compote (nicer than it sounds) while sipping Champagne.

Next stop, the Science Museum. We make our way through to the Making the Modern World gallery, trying not to stop to look at the museum’s other exhibits along the way. Here, dinner is set beneath a plane and guests are served loin of lamb with pea and sweetbread popcorn. Delicious.

We’ve barely finished before we’re herded over to the Natural History Museum. While we’re disappointed not to see any dinosaurs, the Earth Hall looks striking, and there’s a giant dessert resembling sea, sand and earth that has been conjured up by Ampersand. We have another glass of fizz, plus there’s a surprise performance by an array of breakdancing waiters. Quite a way to end the evening.

Best bit: grabbing a selfie with Heston Blumenthal – guest chef for caterer “rhubarb” – at the Science Museum.
