David Beckham pulls out of Union Street Café

(menu)

Union-Street-Cafe-Restaurant-2013-1.jpgGordon Ramsay’s Union Street Café (pictured, right) – one of September’s most anticipated new openings – has lost its celebrity stardust after international superstar and erstwhile backer David Beckham pulled out of the partnership at the 11th hour.

The restaurant, which opens in Southwark on 16 September, was meant to be a joint venture between the two friends – and was publicised as such until earlier this week. The announcement that Beckham would no longer be involved came weeks after the reservation lines for the restaurant had opened, meaning the restaurant had already clocked up thousands of bookings as Londoners competed to bag a table.

A spokesman for the restaurant confirmed that Beckham was no longer officially involved in the project, but said that the pair might collaborate on future London ventures, with a pie-and-mash shop mooted.
