The event: a black-tie private view of the V&A’s ‘Ball gowns: British Glamour Since 1950’ exhibition, as part of Mastercard’s Priceless Nights programme.
The venue: the newly renovated Fashion Galleries at the V&A.
The food: beef fillet skewers and a quail’s egg with spinach and hollandaise canapés served on trays decked with feather boas, pearls and diamonds, followed by plates of poached Scottish salmon and white tomato mousse and (stampede-inducing) mini pans of coq au vin with mash.
To drink: rose-tinged Turkish delight mocktails and prosecco with passion fruit and mango.
The entertainment: a talk by exhibition curator Sonnet Stanfill and a colourful display of ballroom dancing choreographed by Strictly Come Dancing pro Izabela Hannah.
Caterers: Moving Venue.
The talking point: the silk Ralph and Russo gown worn by Beyoncé at a White House State dinner in 2010, Lady Di’s white ‘Elvis’ dress and bolero, and the show-stopping Alexander McQueen lilac-feathered creation worn by Daphne Guinness at the Met Ball in 2011.
We loved: picking up some ballroom steps at Izabela’s beginners workshop.
On the guest list: 80 glammed up Mastercard customers in their own ball gowns.
