Warwickshire have benefited hugely from the character of their famous Edgbaston ground, which is a regular venue for England Test series. The national team's outstanding former captain Ian Botham once said having the Birmingham crowd behind the team was as good as having a 12th man on the field. Brian Lara got his record-breaking 501 runs at Edgbaston in 1994 and the West Indies batsmen helped bring a clutch of trophies home to the West Midlands county, who, in the 1990s alone won seven trophies.
