Leicestershire seem to be a county that grow stronger with age. They joined the county championship in 1895 but failed to make any real impression for 70 years. But since winning their first championship in 1975, they have gone on to sporadically pick up silverware. And the advent of the popular Twenty20 game seems to suit the Foxes too. Notable former players include Phillip DeFreitas, Alan Mullally and West Indies all-rounder Phil Simmons. Dickie Bird, more famous as the charismatic Yorkshire Test umpire, also turned out for Leicestershire in his playing days.
