Although the Red Rose County were consistently challenging for the county championship in the first half of the 20th century - winning seven titles in that time - Lancashire have struggled to recreate that form since. They still draw great support at Old Trafford who have been able to cheer success in the one-day game, notably in the 1990s when lead by England captain Mike Atherton. Manchester is a regular venue for England Tests and proud Prestonian Andrew Flintoff - the outstanding hero of the 2005 Ashes series - is at home at the 22,000-seat venue.
