  1. If you walk around Smithfield market, it is surrounded by Italian restaurants: Amico Bio, Apulia, Il Botteglio, Polpo, Attilio's… As I live around here, I have tried most of them. The only one I haven't been yet is Amico Bio (vegetarian restaurant)but it is my next project. Apulia is by far my favourite (previous review HERE), it is my plan B when I have nothing in the fridge or when I am too lazy to cook. They have nice fresh products, the food is fantastic and pizzas are very good. Waiters and waitresses are always nice and welcoming. It always feels like being at home when I dine there...

The Palomar | THE PALOMAR (Second visit)

Already my second visit to The Palomar restaurant on Rupert street. This time I was seated at the back as I had a reservation. Not sure it was the best option, I think I preferred the atmosphere I had at the bar at my first visit. Next time I won't try to get a nice table and I will just join the waiting list for the bar as it is better. This time as an apetizer and starter my friend and I shared spiced olives and pickled vegetables and Kubaneh Yemeni served with two different dips : tomato sauce (which in my opinion taste like a gazpatcho) and tahini (my favourite)...

    Moro | MORO

Thursday night I went for the first time at Moro, I was invited by my lovely flatmate for a very late birthday celebration (my birthday was in March). She wanted to do something special, and go somewhere I had never been before. After a few months of research, we ended up next to our house, in Exmouth Market in the famous Spanish/North African restaurant Moro. She discovered I had never been there, despite the fact I have been to their sister restaurant: Morito many times. JACKPOT, she found the prefect place to go. As soon as we arrived we were offered some bread and olive oil. We had a look at the menu and wine list. I thought it was a bit weird you couldn't have tapas served at the table as sides to your meal...

    The Palomar | THE PALOMAR

Last week, I went to the new restaurant on Rupert Street, The Palomar. It is probably one of the best soft opening I have been to this year in London, definitely in the top 5 . The Chef at Palomar is Tomer Amedi, he is cooks dishes from Jerusalem with influences from Southern Spain, Italy, North Africa. I am really keen on this kind of food, so I was very happy when I heard about the concept. The restaurant officially opened its door this week and is running a soft launch offer of 50% off until Saturday night. The restaurant is divided into two different areas, tables and chairs at the back and a kitchen bar at the front near a raw bar. My friend and I were seated at the bar, while we were looking at the menu and wine list, we were offered pickle, cabbage and carrot as an amuse bouche, follow my some homemade bread with tahini sauce...

The Magpie Cafe | The Magpie Cafe

Our first excursion was in the seaside, port town of Whitby. It was such a lovely town, I was impressed by the fact there was a queue nearly outside every restaurants that served Fish & Chips and the town itself smells Fish & Chips apart for the top part on the hill near Whitby Abbey. Of course the longest queue was where my friend wanted to go: The Magpie Café, but he told me it was the one of the best Fish & Chips in the UK. We waited 40 minutes which wasn't that bad as it was pretty warm and sunny outside. I'm not sure I will have queue that much under the rain. Galvin La Chapelle | GALVIN LA CHAPELLE

Recently I went to the one-Michelin starred restaurant Galvin La Chapelle for my friends birthday. We both ordered the Menu Gourmand which included 7 courses. The restaurant looked very nice, I don't really know if it was an old Chapel some time in the past, but the decor felt like it. The table set up is quite traditional with white napkins and white tablecloths. Before the first dish, we were offered some white or brown bread. It wasn't the best I've had, I'm not even sure it was home-made. The first dish in this menu was a lasagne of Dorset crab, unfortunately my crab allergy doesn't allow me to eat this kind of dish, the team was very understanding and replaced my first dish with one of the dish from A La Carte menu : Cured organic salmon served with kohlrabi, avocado & blood orange. My salmon was nice but nothing special...

    Little Sardegna | LITTLE SARDEGNA

Since the last few weeks, I like to go outside the trendy new list of restaurants everyone is talking about on the blogosphere or Twitter. Instead I go to small little independent restaurants near central London. Previously I went to Hudsons in Putney which was a great surprise. This time I had dinner in Finsbury Park in a traditional south Italian restaurant: Little Sardegna. A friend introduced me to this place as she just lives in front of it. When we arrived the restaurant was totally empty, we had a booking for five person. In less than half an hour, it was totally packed, they had to refuse walk-ins. The decoration is traditional, green and red checked tablecloths, specials written on the board and some Italian accessories on the wall. Waitresses were very nice and Italian which makes this place more authentic...

    Blackfoot | BLACKFOOT EC1

Blackfoot EC1 opened last December in Exmouth Market, it specialises in pork dishes. Since they opened, I have been twice, first time was few months ago for a dinner when they opened, and the second time was last Sunday for their new brunch offer. The restaurant is divided in two small rooms, one at the front with the bar and tiles on the wall and the other room at the back with old advertising posters. The decoration is minimalist and I like it. For starters we shared with my friend Trevelez jamon and whipped lardo on sourdough toast. Trevelez jamon was very good but nothing compare to the whipped lardo on toast. This dish was fantastic, probably very caloric but well we only got one life ! I remember I added slice of Jamon on the whipped lardo toast, it was a good combination too...

Big Easy Covent Garden | BIG EASY B.Q & CRABSHACK

Big Easy opened a new restaurant near Covent Garden on Maiden Lane few weeks ago. I wasn't sure it will be the perfect place to have lunch for me as I am allergic to crab and I heard their signature dish is crab. But I am very lucky they do lobster too! I went for lunch with a friend, we both shared a grand appetizer, it has Voodoo chicken wings, pit smoked chicken wings, hush puppies, calamari and deep fried jumbo shrimp.I really enjoyed every thing in this platter, all sauce goes very well with everything. My favourite dish in this platter was deep fried jumbo shrimp, they were perfectly cooked, kind of juicy...

    Barrafina | BARRAFINA

Last week as a birthday gift, I visited Barrafina on Frith Street for the first time. Restaurant doesn't take reservations, to be sure we could get a table, we went there a little bit before opening times. I walked past the restaurant many times but I always thought there was an extra room somewhere! Now I understand why you should get there early to get a seat, restaurant is around 20 seats around the massive L-shaped bar. Probably one of my favourite spanish dish is croquetas, Barrafina's croquetas were perfect, I could have eaten both of them, but my friend is really into we share everything...

    Quo Vadis | QUO VADIS

This week I had lunch for the first time at Quo Vadis. I really like the entrance decoration with a massive table and a floral selection on top of it. My friend and I didn't have any booking but we manage to get a table, the staff was very friendly from the hostess at the entrance to our waiter. Decoration on the table was quite simple but very cute, table cloth and flowers. To start I opted for the spalla served with pear and fennel salad while my friend had the salt cod, sea kale and butter sauce. I found the balance of the sweet pear and salted spalla very interesting. It was very good, and light, I will keep in mind this recipe to try it again at home. My friend really enjoy his starter, especially the butter sauce which was according to him excellent...

    Blanchette | BLANCHETTE

After several attempts which failed before Christmas to go to the new French bistro Blanchette in Soho, last week I managed to go there and had lunch. The decoration and atmosphere as soon as you arrive makes you feel in France, with a lot of French objects from a Bécassine doll to the Gérard Depardieu cookbook (I didn't know he wrote one before I saw it there). Tiles at the bar are painted with an Art-Nouveau style frame like Nover from the 1900's, and on the counter you can see some fresh products such as French baguette, saucisson, charcuteries and cheese...

    Boopshi's | HERMAN ZE GERMAN & BOOPHIS

''Gast in Deutschland !'' It is probably what you will have in mind if you walk around Soho & Fitzrovia those days, as two restaurants (German/ Austrian inspiration) opened recently Herman Ze German and Boopshis. Herman Ze German: This place is probably my ''emergency'' choice when I have no idea where to get my take away food for lunch. I know I will never be disappointed ! In the last month I have been there many times, which gave me the occasion to try most of their dishes. The concept of this restaurant is easy and based on a kind of fast food concept. You order at the counter and then a waiter brings the food to your table when it is ready or you can ask for take away...

Kench & Bibesy (closed) | KENCH & BIBESY

I went to the new restaurant Kench & Bibesy three times since their opening on Long Lane near Barbican. It has been launched 2 months ago by the same team as Evans & Peel Detective Agency in Earl's Court. If you love Polpo or Morito, Kench & Bibesy is definitely the next restaurant you should try. Forgot about Spanish or Italian food, here they serve small plates of British food with original names (Return of the tail, Pigeon Fancier, All carrot...no shtick)...

  16. Since I've lived in London I've always wanted to go to Le Relais de Venise here, as I used to go in their sister restaurant L'Entrecôte in Toulouse for many years. The concept is easy, it is a no-choice menu composed by a salad starter followed by a 'Steak-Frites' served with a secret sauce made by Paul Gineste de Saurs. If you are a regular client at L'Entrecôte, you must not leave the place without having two plates of fries with your meat and the famous and delicious chocolate profiteroles as a dessert or you are not a real customer...

    28°-50° Mayfair | 28-50 MADDOX STREET

went to the new restaurant 28°-50° Wine workshop on Maddox Street for lunch with a colleague. This restaurant is run by the people who own Texture. The menu is simple and composed essentially with seafood and meat dishes (which is perfect because I like both !) The place is semi industrial, mainly decorated with wooden wine cases, I liked the main bar with their fresh seafood counter, it reminds me French seafood brasserie. From the beginning to the end of our lunch, service was perfect, they were very attentive and also very comprehensive when we asked them if you can have an extra table next to ours at the last minute for two more colleagues...

    Ducksoup | DUCKSOUP - Soho

This week I went for my first lunch at Ducksoup with two friends, both of them have already been there before. The concept of Ducksoup is the same as a tapas restaurant, some dishes (Bar menu) are small portion and are ideal to share for starters, and others are more like a main course (Kitchen menu). What I like about this place is the decoration, it is quite simple but it is friendly, probably because all tables are near each other (it could something I wouldn't like if I was having a romantic dinner, but for lunch with my two friends it didn't bother me). I like the menu which was hand-written...

  20. "Mangia bene, mangia sano, mangia cucina Italiana!" Dean Street as probably been contaminated by this proverb as it is an invasion of pizzeria... Pizza Express, Soho Joe & Pizza Pilgrims composed the new "Pizza Avenue" (SohoJoe credits) of London. Around them some others good places to enjoy pizza too like Princi, Homeslice, Made in Italy...etc This two last weeks, Twitter foodies were focused on the new opening of Pizza Pilgrims, everybody spoke about pizzas, so I decided to have an Italian week...well let's say Pizza week! Polpo Smithfield | POLPO

I went for the first time to the restaurant Polpo Smithfield with a friend James, I didn't know what was the concept of this restaurant or their menu as I never watch their website, so it was interesting to choose this place for dinner. Polpo is a Bàcaro which is the ancient Venetian name to refer to a bar/restaurant for a quick lunch /dinner stop, it is the same concept as a tapas bar in Spain but more sophisticated...

Shake Shack | CLASH OF TITANS PART II - SHAKE SHACK

I went to Shake Shack on their opening day, Friday, July 5th but it was already too late, there was a big queue. 10 minutes queue for Five Guys the day before was ok but I didn't want to queue hours for a simple burger so I decided to wait that the hysteria of the opening disappears and return another day! So yesterday, I went to Shake Shack, no queue and I ordered the SmokeShack burger, cheese fries and a strawberry milkshake, my friends ordered the ShackBurger and normal fries...
