Manchester Central Convention Complex has launched a new banqueting package, ensuring the venue can now stake its claim as the largest banqueting facility in the region. Capable of accommodating up to 4,000 in the Central Hall or 900 in the Exchange Hall, smaller numbers of up to 400 also won’t miss out once the venue’s redevelopment is finished next year. New carpets, décor and lighting ensure the venue looks the part.

Residential conference venue imago has been chosen by the Japanese Olympic team to use as the base for its training camp in 2012. Making the most of its sporty Loughborough University connections, the venue is also going all out to impress on catering and service, with its head chef heading out to Japan to learn more about the nutritional needs of the 600-strong team and staff taught about Japanese culture and hospitality.

Cardiff has a new £30m stadium just in time for the 2009/10 football season. Built on the site of the former athletic stadium, the 26,000-seater Cardiff City Stadium (tel: 08452 171927) has two large conference/dining areas in the Premier Club, accommodating up to 1,200, as well as 14 boxes which can be used as smaller meeting rooms or breakout spaces.

The Isla Gladstone Conservatory, built in 1870, was overgrown with weeds and hidden behind anti-vandal hoardings as recently as 2007. The entire structure was then disassembled and reconstructed exactly as it would have looked on new foundations in Stanley Park. Now Grade II-listed with English Heritage, the stunning Victorian conservatory can hold 250 for a banquet, 300 theatre-style for a conference or 400 for a reception.

Other plus points include free parking for 1,000 cars, a private foyer complete with large bar, and seating for up to 800.
