Pictures just in of the 10-seater private dining room at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. The room reflects the restaurant's traditional British style, with leather-padded walls, wooden ceiling beams and an antique oriental rug. The three-course set lunch starts from £28, featuring dishes such as Ragoo of Pigs Ears and Orange Buttered Loaf. To be one of the first to book the space, call 020 7201 3833.
Square Meal is happy to reveal that Matter in The O2 Arena, London’s largest superclub, is to be redesigned and reopened as Proud2, following in the footsteps of the Camden nightspot. The club will first open to the public with its Bacchus night on Saturday 5 March, showcasing its brand of Ibizan-style ‘experience clubbing’ on a huge scale. Expect fire breathers, trapeze artists and snake charmers throughout – worlds away from the previous incarnation’s raw, stark and industrial style. All levels of the club have been re-worked, with various snugs and VIP lounges dotted around the venue available to private hire.
All Star Lanes is turning its bowling-gloved hand to meetings, with fantastic rates, starting from £23pp, including lunch. Bowling and/or karaoke is extra. MORE
Last Thursday, 423 of the Square Mile’s finest joined together at Guildhall for quite possibly the City culinary extravaganza of the year, with 12 of the world’s top chefs each designing and making a dish for a five-course banquet. Square Mile Salute was designed to raise money for a range of soldiers’ charities, including Help for Heroes and The Royal British Legion. Mayor of London Boris Johnson introduced the night, before Jeremy Clarkson rounded it off by introducing a charity auction. The auction raised a whopping £240,000, with the top-earning lot going for £60,000.
Harrods’ new Tasting Room, hidden within The Wine Shop on the Lower Ground Floor, has opened its doors. As you’d expect from the location, it’s an ideal venue for a wine tasting, with over 3,000 different lines available from the famous shop, which can be enjoyed with a corkage fee of £15 across the board (the store’s sommeliers are delighted to help you choose bottles). There’s room for up to 16 guests to enjoy a sit-down lunch or dinner, too, with menus created by Harrods’ own chefs. Full conference facilities are available on request.
The City’s latest vertigo-inducing event space launched last night with aplomb. Set at the summit of Nido Tower, Sky Lounge can host 150 guests for a reception or dinner for about 50. The white-walled, split-level room has floor-to-ceiling windows, offering up pretty spectacular views of the Gherkin, Tower 42 and the Inside-Out (Lloyds) Building. Break-out space is also available, doubling nicely as meeting or presentation space. Top drawer caterer Nomad provides the food, while Fisher has been installed to do the production. Call Industri on 020 7269 7935 to book.
Being one of the most popular places to see modern art in London, The Saatchi Gallery rarely comes available to the events market to hire as a blank-canvas space. When the opportunity does arise between artwork changes, event planners jump at the chance. The gallery has availability coming up this year, with a few dates in May, October and November. The modern venue can host up to 1,500, but is equally at home with hosting smaller meetings and receptions. Call 020 8968 9331 to enquire.
