A Park Plaza ‘art’otel’ – as the name suggests – is a cross between a gallery and a hotel, styled entirely by a well-known contemporary artist. Seven examples already exist in Germany and have received widespread critical acclaim.
The new hotel will be built on the site of The Foundry, a gallery-cum-pub close to the hearts of many in the Hoxton/Shoreditch arts community. Featuring an original work by Banksy on the walls, its demolition has caused controversy among locals, with Pete Doherty coming out in support of the venue.
Park Plaza is trying to find a new home for The Foundry and incorporate Banksy's existing art into the design.
