The Boiler House inside Battersea Power Station is open for business, finishing its build just in time for the festive season (there are still a few dates left for Christmas parties too). With a capacity of 1,000, the striking temporary structure sits within the walls of the iconic power station, with a clear PVC roof so guests can gaze up to the famous chimneys. Ample parking is on site and the venue is taking bookings for the next two years.
With our sister title Imbibe regularly holding daytime tastings in its private 80-capacity cocktail bar, we thought it high time to tell you about one of King's Cross' latest openings The Fellow (tel: 020 7833 4395). The slick gastro-pub has a warren of great spaces for private events: the cocktail bar has a decked open air terrace and there's also a 12-seat PDR that specialises in feasts such as whole roast duck or sirloin of beef carved at the huge oak table. Optional extras include cocktail masterclasses, poker tables and screening facilities.
With a soft opening this month and official launch in January 2010, The Arch London is an elegant 82-bedroom hotel built inside seven Grade II-listed Georgian townhouses on Great Cumberland Place. Event spaces include the WHItehall 944, seating 20 for a private dinner or 40 for a meeting, and a library and small study which are also available for hire on an ad-hoc basis.
A stunning new reception and foyer has just launched at the Congress Centre, designed by Hugh Broughton Architects. Already chosen as a location for BBC2's new drama Money, the new design introduces more space, colour and light to the venue's entrance and welcome area. An array of colour-changing LEDs, as well as innovative down and up-lights, is complemented by HD plasma screens, with plenty of opportunities for branding.
January sees the launch of one of the world’s first ‘green’ hotels, Rafayel on the Left Bank in Battersea. Ultra-modern, fitted with LED lights throughout and energy saving features in each room, it aims to reduce electrical costs by 80% and cut 17kg of carbon emissions per bedroom. Four modern meeting suites featuring dark-wood panelling and state-of-the-art AV can host conferences of up to 250, while the 65 bedrooms are all kitted out with MediaHub panels, floor-to-ceiling windows & Murano glass in the bathrooms.
