Shanghai has a stylish new hotel and event space - and that's not all: The Waterhouse at South Bund, a 19-bedroom boutique hotel in Shanghai’s historic Shiliupu dockyard district, is also the site of chef Jason Atherton’s new venture, Table No 1 by Jason Atherton. The culinary team also includes resident chef Scott Melvin, who managed kitchens at maze and maze grill, as well as the sous-chef and pastry chef from the same restaurant. Table No 1, which serves contemporary European cuisine, has two private dining areas, but if you’re looking for more space, check out the adjoining event space. The 8,000sq foot multi-purpose venue, a former warehouse, has a flexible layout and capacity for up to 800 guests. Recent high profile functions include the Shanghai Tang 2009 autumn/winter fashion show, Hong Kong film director Wong Kar Wai’s star-studded private party and the launch of International Home Décor & Design.
