JUNE 2011: José Pizarro’s dashing tapas and sherry bar fits assuredly among the hip eateries of Bermondsey Street, displaying the same easy charm as its owner. Pizarro’s food is the real deal: quality ingredients with few surprises. Daily market specials are displayed in glass cabinets, while Spain’s greatest hits, including top-notch charcuterie and tortilla, are chalked up on the board above the bar. The menu proper boasts rich ham croquetas, lamb meatballs with thick tomato sauce, and ever-popular Padrón peppers.
