Ducasse at The DorchesterAs if having the new-look Dorchester Bar, China Tang and The Grill (with Aiden Byrne newly installed in the kitchen) were not enough, in mid November Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester will be added to the dining options at the Park Lane hotel. Legendary Frenchman Alain Ducasse (pictured) will be executive chef of the forthcoming restaurant, which will be housed in the refurbished former private dining room, The Terrace. Little has been revealed about the food offering, but we’re hoping for classic Ducasse. 53 Park Lane, W1. Tel: 020 7629 8888.
HibiscusTwo-Michelin starred Shropshire restaurant Hibiscus will shortly be arriving in the capital. ‘We’ve been in Ludlow for seven years and we wanted a new challenge,’ says chef/proprietor Claude Bosi (pictured). ‘It’s a simple relocation so we won’t be changing much – there’ll be the same menus, the same prices and exactly the same team.’ Bosi hopes the Mayfair restaurant will be up and running by the end of October. 29 Maddox Street, W1.
Le Cafe des AnglaisIn early November, Whiteley’s shopping centre will become home to Le Cafe Anglais, a joint partnership between chef Rowley Leigh and Bush Bar & Grill owner Charlie McVeigh. ‘It’s going to be in the style of a grand Parisian brasserie, but serving modern British food with a colossal rotisserie forming the centrepiece of the open kitchen,’ McVeigh reveals. ‘Even though it will be quite smart with properly laid tables, we’re keeping prices democratic and we’re hoping it’ll have the same kind of energy as Rowley’s previous haunt, Kensington Place.’ 151 Queensway, W2.
ChaCha MoonAnd Le Cafe des Anglais isn’t the only new place to raise Whiteley’s gastro stakes. We’ve heard rumours that Alan Yau, the restaurateur behind Hakkasan, will be opening two restaurants in the Bayswater shopping centre at the end of the year. There’ll be a fourth branch of his cheap and cheerful Thai chain Busaba Eathai and he’ll also be opening ChaCha Moon, a similar concept to Busaba but serving Szechuan food. In the meantime, Yau will open his long-awaited Japanese fine diner, Sake no Hana, on St James’s Street in early October.
Perhaps it was Selfridges’ new branch of Frankie’s Italian Bar & Grill that spurred John Lewis to up its food offering. A brasserie serving European tapas-sized dishes will open on the third floor on 1 May, while October will see the launch of a foodhall open in the basement. 278 Oxford Street, W1.
