Describing itself as a ‘leading-edge raw-centric eatery’, the Wild Food Café is pure new-age Covent Garden right down to its whirligig-world logo. Occupying a canteen-like space with an open kitchen above Neal’s Yard, it is dedicated to the ‘art of feeling good’, with a menu that touts veggie ‘sunfoods’ (methodically prepared and served below 39oC to preserve enzymes and nutrients), augmented by all manner of wild pickings, seaweeds, fungi and greens. Expect daily soups with sourdough rye bread, botanically minded specials, hot grains, copious salads, ‘artisan sandwiches’ and ideas such as ‘living falafel’ (a raw pistachio pattie with sprouted chickpea hoummos, baba gannouj, tabbouleh and 23-pepper sauce). To finish, get into the spirit with a Love Temple (a handmade raw chocolate bar from Glastonbury). Veggie tonics, fruit smoothies, teas and Monmouth coffees are the drinks of choice.
