Retro in the best sense, this French ‘bistrot' wedged into Teddington High Street turns out hearty French cooking for a hungry local crowd. It's an instantly familiar place, with brick walls, dark
wood tables and chairs, velvet drapes and matching furniture, run by a Jedward lookalike with an ‘Allo ‘Allo! accent and bags of charm. The cooking is proper bistro, so expect moules marinière,
salade niçoise and escargots followed by saddle of lamb with pistachio and mint gnocchi or fillet of cod with cockle, clam and mussel chowder – plus the inevitable steaks. Portions are generous and
the whole package is remarkable value for money, while the set lunch (£10.95/13.95 for two/three courses) is a complete bargain. Wines are mostly French, with plenty by the glass and a few
interlopers from elsewhere.
