SquareMeal Review of Mimosa Chelsea

Bronze Award

After its Asian-fusion concept Zinnia received a mixed reception, the Colchester-based Elysium Group is determined to crack this difficult site on the Fulham Road. The spilt-level premises have now been converted to an outpost of Mimosa – the glam, Brit-themed restaurant/bar that has been a big hit for the group in its native Essex. Interiors mix TOWIE bling with some Made in Chelsea stateliness – think a gold-and-black colour scheme, ceiling-mounted mirrors and an eye-catching bar where cocktails are taken seriously. The all-day food majors on robust flavours ranging from Cromer crab with garlic mayonnaise or scallops with a curried cauliflower and raisin purée to a veal and foie gras burger in a brioche bap. The robata grill kicks out a decent selection of steaks, and there’s a sizeable brunch menu stretching from eggs royale to a stack of pancakes with streaky bacon.

Spent the money on the decor and not the food.
Not really much to say about Mimosa. The decor is very nice and it appears that quite a bit was spent setting up the restaurant. However, what is more important the food or the decor? We only visited for coffee and brunch. The cappuccino was very weak and milky, which wasn't a great start. We then ordered 1 avocado and egg on toast and a eggs benedict. My eggs benedict was tasty but cold for which there is no excuse and the avocado and egg on toast was really bland (the avocado was not dressed) and was served on supermarket quality toast. Would have done better having prepared this at home. Service was average, without any enthusiasm and very matter of fact. They didn't care. Who spends so much on opening a restaurant and doesn't bother with the 2 most important things, food and service? Too late to save us as returning customers but if they don't change we will see another restaurant hit the dust.

Sorry, you cannot spend SquareMeal vouchers here yet.
