Situated amid the plate-glass financial monoliths of Paternoster Square, The Saint does an effective job as an energetic, box-ticking boozer for Friday-afternoon office fugitives – although it also pleases hungry, camera-toting tourists throughout the week (St Paul’s Cathedral is close by). The lunch menu canters through an assortment of dishes that are par for the course in these parts (sausages, mezze platters, Thai green chicken curry, wild-mushroom risotto, fish pie), while the pared-back evening menu is built around global nibbles and nachos. Drinkswise, The Saint boasts a better selection of whites and reds than many corporate wine bars in the neighbourhood, although there’s a paucity of interesting beers on tap and cocktails are mostly middle-of-the-road classics. Enjoy it all in a buzzy, post-industrial setting of bare brick walls, woodwork and ceiling girders.
