SquareMeal Review of The Somers Town Coffee House
Bronze Award
Despite its confusing name, this lively, “young-minded” refuge from the grimy backstreets of Euston is emphatically a pub – complete with funky sofas, pumping music and a casual menu of on-trend tapas-style dishes. There are also up to 10 real ales on the pumps at the bar, or you can sip a continental brew such as Erdinger with some enterprising small plates – think beef and Stilton croquettes, minced pork and marmalade rolls, de-shelled mussels in ale and spring onion sauce or carrot, coriander and orange fritters with fresh herb dressing. The menu also advertises handmade burgers, trendy salads and deli-style sandwiches, as well as some re-invented ‘pub classics’ – how about Cumberland sausages with Scotch egg, creamed mustard mash, parsnip crisps and red wine reduction. If beer isn’t your tipple, dip into the well-chosen global wine list.
