SquareMeal Review of Steak Of The Art

Forgive the slightly silly, yet immensely memorable name and you'll find in this Bristol restaurant a marriage of well-sourced steak and local art work. Manchester gallery owner and steak lover, Steve Bowen has taken a bet on opening his steakhouse-come-art gallery back from the 'floating harbour', just off Anchor Road behind the Hargreaves Lansdown headquarters. And the quality of the steak certainly warrants seeking this place out. Under a bright neon arch, the open bar area at the front welcomes browsing the artwork in the gallery alongside. The design is a slight mismatch of styles with chairs upholstered in zany patterns and booth seating along one side of the restaurant, influenced by various artistic styles. A highlight is an impressive Alice in Wonderland wood carving. The steak is cooked sous-vide - in a temperature-controlled water bath, which ensures an even finish. Choose your cut and then your sauce. Provenance seems to be of the utmost and West Country farmers source all the meat.
