SquareMeal Review of Lots Road Pub

If you’re looking for a bargain on Lots Road, you’re more likely to find one at this tidy gastropub rather than at the auction house opposite. Refectory tables and stripped-wood interiors might be ten a penny these days, but it’s the attention to detail and attractively priced menu that puts this 'proper pub' a rung above some of its rivals. At the bar, big-name brews and craft beers appear alongside more interesting ales such as Camden Hells – perfect if you simply fancy grabbing a burger. There are also some appealing wines by the glass to go with a menu of ‘sharing plates’ and ‘large plates’ – think salmon ceviche or chorizo and Parmesan croquettes ahead of baja-battered haddock, rib-eye and fries or marsh lamb cutlets with fregola and petits-pois cassoulet. For afters, try chocolate fondant with berry compote.

About

Lots Road is a friendly, stylish Chelsea local with a menu specialising in seasonal pub classics and well-loved British favourites. Set in a distinctive crescent-shaped building, its muted blue facade and Georgian architecture will attract design-lovers, offering a glimpse of the period details to come within.

In the main bar area authentic wooden floors and huge original windows are juxtaposed with industrial lighting and minimalist furniture, creating a laid-back atmosphere. This is a great place to get friends together, enjoy a few drinks and dig into the food menu. The menu is broken up into small and large plates which can be treated like starters and mains, or order a bit of everything to share with the table.

Within the selection of small plates you'll find pomegranate, bulgur wheat and fennel herb salad with chicken and halloumi; hot smoked salmon scotch egg with curried fennel mayo; and white onion and cider soup with cheese croutons. Whilst highlights from the mains include grilled Cornish sea bream fillet with black olive tapenade and tabbouleh and the chef's pie of the day with seasonal greens and gravy.

For dessert, we wouldn't be able to resist trying the panna cotta with roasted figs and pistachios, or the sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce either, for that matter. And, if you like the sound of this menu so much that you'd like to organise a private dining event, the venue's 'Snug' is perfect for dinners of up to 40 people, held in a gorgeous teal-green space.

Sunday roasts are also a big thing at Lots Road, which claims it does the best in Chelsea. Every week you'll find options like slow roasted pork belly; half a roast rosemary and herb chicken' and a mixed vegetable turnover, alongside Yorkshire puds, roast potatoes, vegetables and gravy. To wash it down, the team suggest one of the house signature Bloody Marys, which are also great for blowing those hangover cobwebs away from Saturday night.

Best pub in chelsea
Since the refurb this has become by far my favourite pub in chelsea. It's mich more interesting than neigjbouring pubs and the quality of food and beer certainly beats its competitors. The steak is excellent and I love the beer paddles as there's so much choiceI I'dI'd get hammered having a pint of each!

The atmosphere was spacious with relaxed yet attentive service. There was a 2 courses for £10 midweek offer on the night we visited, which my fellow diner went for – however the food which came from this menu was unremarkable. The tomato & basil soup was hearty and generous and served with thick chunks of moist olive bread, but without any kind of imaginative gastropub twist. Likewise, the sausage and mash was average. By ingoring the set menu, I was in for a treat however – the smoked salmon, halibut, beetroot remoulade & baby leaf salad was one of the best starters I've had in 2011 – the two smoked fishes complimented eachother beautifully and encased the delicate beetroot remoulade; the salad and balsamic drizzle was fresh and worked well. Unusually for such a delicious dish, it was not frustratingly small. My chunky chicken and leek pie contained an indulgent creamy sauce with delicate hints of butternut squash, and was served with a mound of perfectly cooked curly kale. The chocolate brownie was exactly how a chocolate brownie should be – moist, dense and rich.

Their burgers are the best! Generally food here is much better and cheaper than in nearby Waterside pub.

The revamp of 2008 has given the Lots rd pub lots of cheap looking furniture & not much else. The menu is unchanged (still) & after going regularly we have decided that its just too boring for words. Not what it used to be.
