SquareMeal Review of The Philharmonic Dining Rooms

Not quite as famous as The Beatles, but still a legend, this stunning art-nouveau watering hole was built in the late 1800s and takes its name from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall across the road. Inside it’s a riot of mosaic floors, intricate plastered ceilings, stained glass and mahogany partitions, although the star attractions are its outrageous pink-marble gents’ loos (ladies are allowed a peek, if they ask nicely). Aside from ogling the fabulous interior, drinking is the main business at The Phil – so choose from a roster of seasonal ales including the likes of Robinson’s Unicorn, Thwaites Nutty Black or Adnams Lighthouse. There’s also plenty for those who prefer a dram or a glass of wine. If solid sustenance is required, fill up on sticky pork ribs, venison sausages, beef rib pie or fish and chips. A must-visit boozer.
