Dreamed up by foodie journalist and magazine editor Madeleine Lim, The Little Bar certainly lives up to its diminutive name. Set in converted retail premises, it’s a perfectly formed neighbourhood watering hole complete with high stools at the pristine counter and seating in a dinky courtyard. Its wine offer includes a modest range of vino from small producers (available by the glass from £4), but they’ll also fix you various takes on the classic kir, Italian spritzs, numerous negroni variants, a mean martini, picklebacks, Julian Temperley’s méthode champenoise Somerset cider, and locally brewed Wolfie Smith brown ale – a libation that harks back to Tooting’s days as a hotbed of revolution (led by Citizen Smith, in the 1970s sitcom). To nibble, there are boquerones, terrines, charcuterie and cheese plates on the cheap.
