SquareMeal Review of Spiritland King's Cross

Bronze Award

Following a residency at Angela Hartnett’s Merchants Tavern, Paul Noble, Patrick Clayton-Malone and Dominic Lake have opened this classy King’s Cross record store, listening lounge and café-bar. Spiritland’s breathtakingly brilliant analogue sound system is manna to music lovers appreciative of all genres – especially with its decks operated by the likes of Severino, Andy Weatherall, Patrick Forge, Ian Dewhirst and Jarvis Cocker. Drinks also cover most bases. Choose from three dozen wines from £25, various local and imported craft beers (with Thornbridge Chiron on tap) and £10 cocktails including Sakamoto Sorbet (Brooklyn Gin, limoncello, basil and Belsazar white vermouth) and Deez Nuts (Ron Abuelo 7 rum, smoked rosemary, toasted pecan and bitter chocolate). Sustenance starts with morning coffee and pastries or NYC-London brunch staples, followed by an all-day menu that typically offers chicken soup with matzo balls, salt beef or pesto Caprese sandwich, aubergine Parmigiana, a daily pasta dish and salads.

Interesting concept
A terrific new concept. If you are interested in music and atmosphere then this is the place to go. The sound quality of the speakers is worth a trip alone. The space is beautifully designed, warm and atmospheric. The food was quality although the portions could have been a bit bigger, the service was great. I went with a group of friends to hear a DJ play, the sound was so clear that you could converse without struggling, which is a more sociable way of hearing a live set but it was also easy to tune into the music as you so wish. Perfect to escape from the hustle of the city for a while.

Cryptic
“This place sucks plain and simple. Dominated by hipster retro people that can not be talked to unless you know know Morrissey's new album. Chiron always at a crazy price shitty bartenders who will ignore you and make drinks like they know what they are doing. This place is great for any 20 something year old trying to fit in haha garbage . Cool concept just badly executed.
