About

As chains and independents do the hokey-cokey in Didsbury village, cobbled Warburton Street remains home to a handful of veteran businesses. Paul and Nina Burton’s restaurant is one of them, neatly fitted into the cottage at number four. The menu is geared towards pleasing, rather than surprising, customers, though includes contemporary touches such as the gingerbread crumb and beetroot and raspberry purée with a starter of Rosary goats’ cheese, or a cauliflower cheese risotto with sage breadcrumbs and tempura florets. The combinations of (mainly British) flavours are tried and true, but well-thought-out dishes tempt from the page: slow-roast belly pork with black pudding nuggets, apple purée, confit potato and red wine jus; or grilled stone bass with brown shrimps, broad beans, potato dumplings and basil pesto. Dessert could be iced lemon curd parfait with shortbread and raspberries. The short wine list starts at £17.95, and there are roasts on Sundays.
